Christina Bater

Christina Bater, CFP®
Managing Director

Long tenured with Barrett Asset Management, Chris joined the firm in 1984 after graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo where she received a B.S. in Business Administration. Over the past decades, Chris has climbed the ranks at Barrett having held posts in Client Service/Family Office Administration, equity research and portfolio management.

It was her work in the Family Office Management area that led her to pursue studies in Personal Financial Planning at New York University and she is now a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant. In dealing with multi-generational family relationships, Chris felt that some of the high-net-worth clientele of the firm required a more holistic wealth management approach coupled with the firm’s core investment advisory offerings. So in addition to her role as a portfolio manager, Chris acts as the firm’s in-house wealth manager and financial planner. In that role, Chris assists clients in periods of transition with college planning, retirement income planning and projections, review of estate plans and insurance policies, eldercare advisement as well as divorce planning. Chris is also well versed in philanthropic advisement, tax planning and inter-generational wealth transfer via trusts. Chris often serves as trustee and executrix for many clients’ family trusts and estates. In an effort to keep current on the changing investment, legal and tax landscape, Chris is a member of the Financial Planning Association, the CFA Institute, and the New York Society of Security Analysts.

Chris’ outside pursuits focus on three very different areas: educational philanthropy, farming and Irish music. Chris serves as the President of the Bronx High School of Science Alumni Foundation, Inc. She has guided the evolution of the Foundation from a $300,000 fund to over $8 million in assets over the past five years in order to provide supplemental funding for this extraordinary public school. When weekends roll around, Chris dons her work boots and assists her husband, Andrew, at their farm in Central Pennsylvania. This includes working with researchers at Penn State and the Farm Bureau to promote sustainable small-scale agriculture and woodlands management. Chris also finds the time to squeeze in concertina lessons at the Irish Arts Center.

She and her husband split their time between New York and Pennsylvania. Their daughter has abandoned them for the west coast and a career in the fine food and wine industry in Napa, California.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.
