Peter H. Shriver, CFA


Peter Shriver is CEO of Barrett Asset Management, and a Portfolio Manager. He joined the firm in 1989 and enjoys working with clients and researching new investment ideas.

Peter graduated with honors from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with a BA in Philosophy. He continued his studies at New York University and received an MA in Philosophy where he wrote his Master's thesis on the American philosopher William James. Moving into book publishing, Peter was a general interest book editor at a firm which is currently part of Random House. After getting interested in business and deciding he needed to earn a living, Peter went to NYU again and received an MBA in Finance.

Peter began his investment career as a securities analyst at the money management firm of Peter B. Cannell & Company. Before joining Barrett, he was a Vice President at Henry Ansbacher, Inc., a British investment banking firm which specialized in mergers and acquisitions for media and communications companies. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the CFA Institute. Peter is also the CEO and President of one of Barrett's two mutual funds.

Peter has a number of outside interests. He has coached both Little League and Soccer for both his son and daughter for many years in his home town. For six years, he was Treasurer for the Buck Hill Conservation Foundation in Buck Hill Falls, PA. The Foundation works to protect land and water resources in the Poconos. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Foxhowe Association, an educational foundation founded by Quakers in 1924, which runs recreation programs in the community of Buck Hill Falls, PA. He enjoys playing tennis and hiking whenever possible. Peter is currently learning the bass guitar so he can keep up with his son who plays rock guitar.
