Robert J. Milnamow

Bob joined Barrett Asset Management in 2003 where his decades of experience and previous roles as President and Chief Investment Officer guided the firm, its investment research and portfolio management. In 2021, Bob transitioned to a new role at the firm as an Advisor.

As an advisor Bob continues to provide valuable input to partners in working with long term client relationships as well as perspectives for managing the firm. Bob was very involved in leading the firm’s efforts to bring in highly qualified, young professionals over the past five years. Going forward he remains a resource for these individuals and the firm as they navigate volatile financial markets and changing business challenges.

Before joining Barrett, Bob ran his own investment management company, specializing in long/short equity management. Prior to that, Bob was with Rockefeller & Co., where he managed individual high‐net‐worth, foundation and endowment accounts, and was involved in the creation and management of a fund of funds alternative investment product. Before this, Bob was with Oppenheimer Funds, where he managed their largest mutual fund, which grew threefold under his tenure to more than $11 billion. Earlier in his career, Bob was a security analyst for a major New England bank and then a portfolio manager at Phoenix Securities. At Phoenix, he managed the Phoenix Total Return, an asset allocation mutual fund that was featured in “100 Best Mutual Funds You Can Buy” (by Gordon K. Williamson). The fund was also ranked by Kiplinger’s as number 1 of 4,350 funds for five years for superior risk adjusted returns with below average volatility.

“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”

—Mark Twain
